I don’t love it because I really wish I could have figured this out but I lost a lot of time in this for an old OS.

I then focused on getting the E6410 model to work and eventually gave up since we decided today that all future builds were going to be Windows 7 and the old Windows XP build worked. I had hoped that this would help me since it appeared to be the same issue. I consulted the following forum for some time.

These drivers when used in the respective driver packages would result in the machine freezing after the sysprep. They would apply the “large driver package” first and then do a HardwareID WMI query for the above hardware which would then install the “Apply Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E/PCHM SATA RAID Controller.” Dell recommends the following for both of the following laptops. In fact both model of laptops in RAID mode had Hardware IDs of PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&CC_0104.DeviceDesc. The SCCM admin created a Mass Driver section in the XP Task Sequence that worked for the E6410 & E6420. The SCCM admin was using 1 driver for Mass Storage which is actually not the “Dell recommended driver” for both of those models. I could not get XP loaded on any of the 4 above models no matter which Mass Storage driver I used inside their respective driver package. I attempted to create driver packages for the E6410, E6420, E6330 & E6430 for use in Windows XP so I could get away from 1 large Driver Package that targeted all our models. All of our models work fine for Windows 7. In Windows 7 I used the Dell Cabs for each model we have and setup Driver Packages for each model.

The SCCM admin here had the E6410 & E6420 laptop working in RAID mode, but was using one large XP-based Driver Package. I was brought in to help migrate to W7, so this doesn't have a very high priority for me since we are actively pushing Windows 7 to our users in an ongoing project. Just so you know a little bit more about my scenario, I walked into the SCCM environment here after it was setup and Windows XP was being installed as the main OS for a few years. If I need to provide more information, please advise. There are no issues when deploying Win7 but I'm finding no joy adding the new models to my XP task sequence. We are a DELL shop and I have incorporated numerous models into our environment without issue. On my machines, the BIOS is set to factory defaults. Has anyone been able to deploy XP to the new latitudes using the above drivers? In our environment, we're running SCCM 2007 R3 for OSD. I'm new to this forum so forgive, (and advise) if I should post this somewhere else.
